Retinopathy of prematurity

Screening criteria and treatment.

  • Screen: birth weight ≤ 1500 g or GA ≤ 30 weeks, plus selected infants with unstable courses.
  • First exam at 31 weeks PMA or 4 weeks chronological age, whichever is later.
  • Treat type 1 ROP (ETROP): zone I any stage with plus; zone I stage 3; zone II stage 2–3 with plus.
  • Options: laser photocoagulation or anti-VEGF (BEAT-ROP, RAINBOW) with longer follow-up for late reactivation.
